From the Editor
Greetings from hot and humid New York City!
I hope everyone has been able to keep cool and musically productive during the summer and that the upcoming concert season and school year is primed for great music and much success!
Our second release of the new online Podium Notes is here and we have some great pieces for you. New releases include parts 1 and 2 of a 4-part interview with Sir Roger Norrington, conducted (get it?…”conducted”) by Guild member Paul Wegman Taylor, a comprehensive discussion of the history of cuts in Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Second Symphony from Clinton Nieweg and Ron Whitaker, and International and National News from the conducting world, compiled by Burton Zipser. A lot of interesting reading for the closing days of summer.
As always, we hope you enjoy these pieces, and encourage you to let us know what you think in the “comments” section after each article. Your feedback is very valuable to us.
On another note, we want to encourage all Conductors Guild members to plan on attending the CG Annual Conference in San Francisco from January 6-11, 2011. Go to the Annual Conference page on the CG Website for more information. It’s going to be another great conference and you’ll want to attend to meet your colleagues and partake of the great events that are planned.
And finally, we encourage all CG members to submit articles, reviews, interviews, etc. for inclusion in Podium Notes. It’s your newsletter and we want to make it as robust and relevant as possible.
Wishing you all the best,
David Leibowitz, Editor
